The View of an Eagle

Lifting my eyes towards the sky
Imagining I am an Eagle that can fly
With wings spread wide and head held high
Feeling that uplift can bring tears to one’s eye

The view below was sitting so still
It felt so good it must be God’s will
When looking around the clouds I could see
All puffed up big but soft as can be

As the updraft of air starts to dwindle
Down, down, down I continued
With life’s past thoughts quickly emerging
Both worlds start converging

I start to wonder just what I had seen
Soring so high where the air is so clean
Where it was easy to see and to feel so free
God’s wonderful world came in focus for me

Again I looked down with a new open mind
Treating my past as one of a kind
The updraft was back and rekindled my though
On my wide spread wings it had caught

Higher and higher I began to climb
Above the scant clouds in a very short time
The view from above I could see the earth
I really began to feel my true worth

Life took on a new meaning
A little like spring cleaning
Everything seemed so clean and so free
I just couldn’t believe it, it just couldn’t be

But God opened my eyes so I could see
All is not lost if you just believe in Me
Open your heart and let Me in
And I promise I will forgive all of your sins

I opened the door into my heart
And then my life began a new start
With God by my side I wondered no more
My life had changed right down to the core

As the Eagle flies high
With his eyes he can see
Gods wonderful gift
It’s so great to be free

Choices, Choices, Choices – Believe it or Not!

A  couple years ago, I needed to put a stake in my yard to hold a Christmas ornament from blowing away. After thinking about it just a little I remembered I had a sprinkler system. I didn’t know where the main pipe feeding that area was located, I only knew my yard was large and this water line was only 1 inch in diameter. So what are the odds I could hit it when I was only driving a 3/4 inch stake in that little spot in that large area. I told myself that it would be pretty much impossible. Yes, you guessed it. I drove it right into the middle of that pipe and never had a clue what I had done. Come spring I found I had an issue. I told myself that there was no way but there was. I guess we can say the wrong choice was made by me.

When it comes to choices we have to make vs. choices we want to make, I find that they can both get us into trouble. When we make a choice based on only our thoughts which is what I did with that nasty stake, we only have ourselves to blame. I don’t think it was the fault of the company that installed the sprinkler system and if I would have called them up and asked what they were thinking when they put that water line right where my stake needed to go, I’m sure they would have told me that they were their first. Your problem – You caused it – What were you thinking!

But what happens when I make a choice based on someone else’s guidance and it proves to be wrong? Many times in today’s world we blame things going wrong on someone else. It’s many times hard for us humans to admit we could be wrong. So we blame the mistake on someone else. Maybe we might take them to court or just make a serious threat. We might stop being friends with them even if we asked them for the advice. Many things can happen when we make choices. We make them everyday of our lives. Getting up in the morning, eating or going to bed is a choice. It maybe started by making a choice that takes little thought like being hungry, tired or rested. However, it is a choice. Maybe we make a choice to do something because it makes us feel good. We really like a special kind of desert. Then 20 years later and 60 pounds over weight we realize maybe we should not have eaten the whole thing! We realty want something that we think we cannot live without, we don’t have the money, so we charge it! Then we can’t sleep because we can’t pay for it. Must have been that sales person’s fault!

Those pesky sales people can be a bit of a pain if you are not aware of the goods they are selling. They are either there to genuinely help or they are there to make a sale. It is the one that is there just to make a sale that we generally need to be aware of. If we choose to wrap our arms around our own ability to listen, rationalize and ultimately determine for ourselves what we want to believe, we can begin to see who we really are. We can buy into things that are good for ourselves.

I believe that God also gave each of us choices to make. He made a choice and gave each of us a brain and a mind to think with and allows each of us to make our own choice about Him. The problem we all need to be aware of is that there are people out there that don’t want us to believe in God. They have their own agenda no matter what it is. The problem that happens if you follow just their advice, you could be making one of those choices that you have to repair later or it is also possible that you won’t be around to repair it and it will be too late. So we need to be careful when we are making choices about something so important and careful about who influences us and also about who we influence. Clearing our mind of all the junk that clouds the issue and making sure we understand the results of our choices and then moving forward with it is up to us. One way or the other – it is our choice!

In Control, Out of Control, Being Controlled

The thing about control is that it has to start in our mind. When you dig really deep we find that the brain and the workings of the mind can become complicated to understand. However, I believe some of the key basic functions we can comprehend without a Doctorates degree which enables us to better understand how we control things in our lives.

Generally we must first comprehend a situation exist and then the result of our action or reaction kicks in gear. The key is that we have to comprehend and not just react.

When we are in control we feel confident. When we are out of control we feel stressed. When we are being controlled we are upset. The thing about control is that we ultimately control all of it. Even the quick reaction our body makes if a snake suddenly appears while we stroll along some path. We quickly stop. In this case it is a reaction and not a comprehension based on logical thinking. However, we programed the reaction over time by what we put in our brains reaction center and in reality it started out as a logical thought way before you took the walk. Some things are simple. A snake bit can kill you so stop. While we need these quick reaction responses programed in our brain to keep us safe, they can stop us from seeing the rest of the picture. The question we should ponder is; what have I or someone else programed into my mind that causes me to react and not allow the full process of gathering information which allows a conscious thought out decision. How often do we only look at one point of view because we have programed our mind this way; we are comfortable with our position on a subject so avoid any chance of possible change in that position.

In today’s world we continue seeing example after example where someone else is assumed responsible and self responsibility is secondary. Allowing someone else to control, manage, manipulate, and influence our lives is many time unseen by each of us. Our daily life takes on a direction of those around us. We do things in a manner that does not disrupt the local boat. We become so tightly locked into our local world we stop really thinking for ourselves.

If we really evaluate our lives, we see the many influences that make us who we are. In some cases we may feel that this is good, but sometimes we also can look back and see that it was not really what we would like. It was not with an outcome that we were pleased with. While we would like to go back and change the outcome, it is impossible.

One of the old sayings that my Grandmother would say was; “All things work together for good”. I know she got this from the bible, but she used it when ever something just did not work out so great, or when something bad happened. So when we encounter these bumps in our road, do you look back and get up tight or do you let it go and move forward? Do you try to fix it or do you trust that down the road you will understand the good that came form it. That things will turn around and good will come from something that didn’t work out like you imagined.

This is one of life’s biggest challenges!

If we could just learn to love one another, I do believe everything would work out for the good. When life drums up something that upsets our apple cart, can we learn from it and move on without letting it totally disrupt our lives? Can we learn to evaluate the event, possibly search our inner thoughts, maybe do some research, and then move forward with a positive attitude?

We control our actions and re-actions. Only when we allow others to totally influence us do we loose this control. When others with an agenda are in control, we become someone they want us to be. God gave each of us a brain and a mind to think with. He gave us the compassion to give love, to accept love and to create a loving environment for ourselves and those around us to enjoy. It is with the faith we have in God, that we were created with a purpose and that we did not just happen that gives us such great hope. That we are somebody and not just something that evolved!

No matter what you believe, go and search those thoughts, look in all directions, really evaluate what you have decided to believe in. One thing I have determined is that when you peal the onion of life back to the core, you were either created by God or you evolved. Where have you placed your faith?

As always your comments are welcomed. Enjoy this great and wonderful day!

The Power of WORDS!

The meaning of the words we write, speak, think and act out is who we really are. It is who we have become. If one does not like whom they have become, only that one can change it. The hidden motives of the words we speak and think are the foundation of our personalities. How we are seen by those around us is something we should all be aware of if we are not. The words we choose to use, how we state them which ultimately allows them to be heard and understood for what we meant, makes the difference of how we are perceived, liked, loved and even despised. Choosing our words and think how we would want to be thought of should be important. Being positive, living and showing love and compassion can be a key to a wonderful life.

Saying I love you and not I hate you.

Saying let me help and not do it yourself.

Saying what do you need and not let them figure it out for themselves.

Saying thank you and not just walking away.

Saying thank you and not just continuing on with what you are doing.

Saying let me do that and not just walk on by.

Saying please and not just reaching and taking.

Saying this is how I understand this and not I am going to teach you a lesson.

Saying let me help you with that and not you will find out on your own.

Saying I am sorry and not making an excuse.

Saying I am sorry and not expect the same in return.

Saying I am sorry and proving it.

Saying I am sorry with love and not contempt.

Saying I am sorry for doing that and then doing it again.

Saying thank you for even the smallest of things and meaning it.

What is most important is showing and living the word LOVE “unconditionally” with no words spoken!

A World of Love, Support, Victory and Defeat

We are fast approaching upon the halfway point of 2014. The 14th of February has faded behind us. Birthdays, anniversaries and other special days have come and gone. There are still those special day of the year in front of us.  During these times we are reminded that we have those who love us. We have friends that care for us, those that are there when we need them. The Winter Olympics in Russia are now a memory along with everything that goes with them. From the thrill of victory to the agony of defeat. Remembering the love and support that each athlete is given by fellow countrymen and those of foreign nations. The forgoing of country differences for the love of competition,  comrodery and mutual respect for the skills each have developed. The love and compassion felt by those who do not reach the glory they worked so hard to achieve. The passion each of them have in making a decision to strive for excellence putting in another four years of physical and mental strain again not being guaranteed success. The enjoyment each of us feel while watching and cheering our favorites in competition. We should all salute those who strive for excellence, those who embrace the world as an equal human race, those who believe we are all created equal, those who see no difference in the color of skin or country origins, and embrace life and all it has to offer. Those that open their mind to the possibilities and do not just accept idle words of impossible, can’t be done, it’s not worth the effort as they listen around the water fountain. Those who have the courage to speak up trying to make a difference in our world expressing their point of view while listening to those of others, all in an effort to make a difference. I struggle to comprehend why so many of us have closed our minds to the possibilities that life presents to each of us. While some have had a hard life and some not so bad, we each have a chance, even if it starts out as such a small chance to grab this life we live and enjoy everything we can get from it. The joy of a husband and wife as they take that first step of marriage,  the birth of their first child, then that first step, the first year of school, the graduation and the joy and feelings that come as they move forward with life leaving the home they have known as theirs just to start a new life that they now will lead. The joys are endless if we look around. Why our world thrives on negativity is really a reflection on those of us who listen. Our news media most generally tell the negative side only because it sells. Right or wrong we are continuously bombarded with negativity. We tune in because we can’t believe what we are hearing or maybe we are just curious or maybe it somehow affects our personal lives. In any case, it fuels the fire of negative press. We have those who have the abilities to open their mind to a world of discovery and a desire to know true fact and the difference of a theory presented as real from those that truly are. When we each reach this point in our life, and I pray each of will before we die, we begin to understand our life on this earth, why we are here and how this all started. I have stated many times that it takes faith to believe in evolution as the reason for everything and that it take faith to believe in God as the creator. It is important! It is a wonderful time we live in. Go out and explore! Find your answer!

What a Wonderful World We Could Live In

What would we do if this world we live in was perfect?

How would our lives be altered from what it is today?

If one was to let their imagination wonder and just flow around life in a perfect world, I could believe that smiles would come on our faces, grins would happen where frowns once existed, stomachs would gurgle with delight as we feed it with perfect foods, people would be laughing instead of crying, everyone would bend to help someone up instead of walking on by, love of and by everyone would be the only way. No more hate, no more crime, no need for jails, no need for court systems, just peace everywhere. Money would not be required as we all live to help each other. Harmony, just plain sweet harmony! No more searching for the meaning of life, where we came from and why we are here. Evolution of the world including man would be meaningless as we just absorb the beauty around us.

Ok – I just woke up from my dream. However, I now wonder if God created each of us and everything around us to live just like my dream, then what went wrong? Did He plan for people to hate people, did He plan for different classes of people or were we all created equal. Why would God the creator of all of everything (if you believe in creationism) design something that has such flaw’s. Or was it a flaw? If we would have been created to live in this world never to have any issue with another, never to be disturbed about anything, just living each day, day in and day out in a some sort of trance,  we would be living without the power to think and to experience everything He created. So He gave us the ability to see, touch, smell, hear and taste things. For this to work He needed to give us a brain that could comprehend each of these things. With a brain that can comprehend we then have the ability to want. With a brain that can want we form opinions. With opinions we take up positions. It is these positions that get this world in trouble.

Of course if you are an evolutionist none of this really matters anyway. We are just here by chance and via the process of change because it is needed because of something that requires it to change,  we should not have any ill-feelings about this world we live in just because we embrace change in our philosophy of life. Only the best survive.

However, if God created everything and he created man in His image, then he must have known we can screw things up! He must have a mind to think with or He could have never created anything. So he gave man only two simple rules. Love Me with all your heart and love your neighbor and of course don’t eat that apple. Pretty simple rules with no underling small print needing a king or some supreme court to rule on. Just follow those two simple rules. Now if we look at the idea of loving God, it’s not hard to comprehend that if we really believe or maybe in the case of Adam and Eve, knew he created everything, it would be pretty easy to love him just by looking around and seeing all the beauty around us. And let’s not forget that had He not created man we would not be here and able to love and appreciate everything around us.

So was it God who screwed up this world, causing conflicts between men, woman, ethnic groups, religious groups, or countries, or was it man just because he has the ability to think, a mind to manage his thoughts, and drive his desires?

“Without God then we are just something in time that really in the end means nothing. But with God we are somebody!”

God’s Not Dead – part 2

I was doing some research and quickly found the following statements. As I read the article I became even more aware of the efforts to explain what happened that proves what or who we are – while not really explaining much of anything. The efforts to cloud an issue while working hard to clarify and substantiate current theories is somewhat mind-boggling. If you read what is written closely you will see that the efforts put forth in the end completely support the requirement, the staging and the changes that had to take place that allowed man of old to live such a long life (up to and over 900 years). These changes in sea level and how the atmosphere changed hold such a key to who we are. Changes like these disrupt the current scientific dating methods more specifically carbon dating. As you read the report keep in mind that if the Cambrian explosion happened and it was responsible for starting life forms to evolve, and that it took place 530 million years ago, then we should not find things of human origin or things of later era’s located in this formation of the earth. However, we do find these things. Is it even possible that life of anything could have existed and then survived this explosion. Is it possible for this type explosion to happen and still keep our earth in its place in the atmosphere allowing life that existed to continue and expand into what we see today? If it took an explosion to really kick-start life as we know it, then how could it possibly take 20 million years. It would not be an explosion! It would have been a process and this is what science wants us to believe happened. So was it a process or an explosion?

Evolutionary ‘Big Bang’ Was Triggered by Multiple Events

The Cambrian explosion, the evolutionary “big bang” that led to the emergence of a trove of complex life forms, was caused by multiple events, researchers argue.

Genetic changes allowing for complex body plans combined with rising sea levels and an influx of chemicals into the ocean probably created the unique conditions needed to set off the Cambrian explosion, researchers argue in a perspectives paper published today (Sept. 19) in the journal Science.

“There was this cascade of events,” said study co-author Paul Smith, a paleobiologist at the University of Oxford’s Museum of Natural History. “You can see how one process might feed into one another and possibly amplify it as it feeds back.”

Evolutionary big bang

About 530 million years ago during the Cambrian Period, the diversity of life on Earth exploded. The first sea-faring predators and prey emerged, animals developed strange and diverse body plans and evolved hard exoskeletons. A recent study revealed that life evolved during the Cambrian Period at a rate about five times faster than today. [Cambrian Creatures: Images of Primitive Sea Life]

Scientists have proposed everything from genetic changes to a starburst in the Milky Way to explain the explosion in diversity.

“There are well over 30 hypotheses out there for the Cambrian explosion,” Smith told LiveScience.

Smith and his colleagues looked through all the existing research to see what could explain the evolution of complexity from relatively simple life forms that existed prior to the Cambrian explosion.

“Prior to this, a typical ecosystem would have been a microbial mat with a few things sitting on top,” Smith said. (Microbial are single cell living organisms. Where did they come from?)

At that time, animals couldn’t eat large particles of food, and there were no food webs with predators chasing prey. (if life forms started based on the theory that the big bang mixed just the right amount of chemicals and etc. together to start life, then life didn’t exist prior to the big bang. If it did exist then the big bang did not start life. At the time of the big bang no animals existed big or small. So how did it start?)

Multiple factors

The researchers found genetic changes were needed to get the ball rolling toward an explosion of life. By estimating mutation rates, biologists have concluded the genes that code for complex, easily adaptable, bilateral body plans — a necessary precursor for diverse life forms — likely evolved 150 million years prior to the Cambrian Period. (Some evidence suggests this evolution may have occurred closer in time to the Cambrian explosion.)

But genetic changes alone couldn’t explain the explosion in diversity.

The rise of sea levels and the flooding of flat, shallow areas of the continents may have served as triggering events. The flooded areas would have provided vastly more habitat for organisms, and the contact between the eroded rock surface and the seawater would have infused minerals, such as calcium and strontium, into the oceans.

Those minerals are toxic to cells, so animals would’ve needed a way to excrete them.

The animals then would have evolved the ability to incorporate those minerals into their exoskeletons, enabling much more complicated body plans, predation and more modern food webs.

The idea that many factors led to the Cambrian explosion is pretty widespread, said Robert Gaines, a geologist at Pomona College in California, who was not involved in the study.

“I think there are very few people who wouldn’t wholeheartedly agree with that,” Gaines told LiveScience.

Though the Cambrian explosion is described as a big bang, it was a rather drawn-out affair occurring over 20 million years, Michael Lee, a researcher at the South Australian Museum at the University of Adelaide, who was not involved in the study, wrote in an email.

“One would expect that a range of complex ecological and abiotic drivers might have acted at different times throughout the period,” Lee said.

God’s not Dead

The movie “Gods Not Dead” has hit the screens and if you choose to go and see it (I highly recommend it), you may see the world from a little different angle even if it is for just a moment. For those of you that have followed any of my writings or even read a copy of my book “Deceptive Influences” you would know this is a passion of mine. I believe that this world was created and that it has not just evolved. I believe that if everyone would take the time or maybe better yet be given the total story via our education system, the world would be such a good place to live. People would love people, people would respect people, all people would have a real truthful purpose in life. It’s not that each of us don’t have goals, and it is not that goals are not important because they are, it’s that so many times we get the important ones mixed up and they end up on the back burner and many times we loose them due to our pushing them so far back we don’t even remember them. In todays world, actually this started back in history in the early 1800’s and we could even track this back hundreds of years before our time, the world decided that God was not so important and that maybe He just does not exist and set out to prove that they were correct. Going way back in time people added new god’s to the equation in search for something that they must have felt made sense to them at the time. Then came the evolutionary theory. No God at all. While this was a very small minority in the beginning, the momentum started to grow in the mid-1800’s. Many people credit Darwin with this evolutionary thinking. He stepped out and published what he felt was important and he did this for a reason. He did this after the death of his young daughter and also his younger son. I can only guess at what his attitude on life would have been. I have never experienced this personally outside of loosing my parents and grandparents, but loosing a child let alone two would be a bit devastating. It was after this that I believe Darwin lost his faith in God. Darwin had went to college and trained to be a minister. His faith was challenged and his desire to find a different path was set.

I believe that this is true for any of us when faced with things in our lives that make us feel uncomfortable, uneasy with what we see, upset with events in our lives, and just plain upset with God. So many people blame any bad thing’s that happen on God. How often do you hear or maybe you have even stated it, “If God was a good God He would not let these thing happen”. People struggle with these issues. I truly believe that if we could allow our minds to just contemplate the total story, we would be able to understanding that it is not God doing these things. I had an example of this explain to me and it goes like this.

“If a father and a son were walking along a path together, and the son fell down and hurt himself, was it the fathers fault? Did the father cause him to fall? Or was it the father that reach down and picked up his son and help him back on his feet or carried him back home?”

Digging into this topic I have discovered that it really does come down to a single question. It should have nothing to do with what makes us comfortable, how we want to live our lives or what makes us happy. It has to do with the truth behind who we are. Were we created or did we just evolve? You may not want to tackle this question or even explore it due to our human inclination to keep our lives comfortable with where we are. However, if we were created then it is a very real possibility that God is real and that what He created is each of us. If we evolved from something, then He is not real. It takes faith to believe in either. It is now a matter of where you place your faith. When placing it one way or the other you need to do this with an understanding of all the information out there and not just what someone wants you to believe. We live in a world that either tells us what to do or provides advertising in an attempt to control our desires. What we need to do is make that decision ourselves based on our discovery journey. Believing in God is not restrictive outside of what we should not be doing anyway and allows each of us to live a great life. If you decide to believe in evolution you should still desire to live by the same rules of life. In either case our life on earth would be so much better if we all followed these simple rules. They are called the 10 commandments.

I welcome any comments and thoughts from either side of this discussion. It is an exciting journey we are on and to share and explore is what makes this life so interesting. Thanks in advance for your support and too each and every explorer that decides to jump aboard this discovery journey with me.

What happened to all the people?

A Think Tank question:

Have you ever had a time when you were looking at something to purchase and when comparing the difference in cost of new vs. used and having checked out the available statics, you determine that new is the best way to go? However, down the road what you purchased new no longer worked while your friend with the used one was still using it and it was working just like yours did when it was new? The world of statistics can be fascinating and generally can add credibility to most any thing if they exist, if true information is utilized with no hidden motivation in their compilation. Summing this up we really need just the true facts to draw a solid conclusion.

Looking into our world population and the current numbers that everyone agrees exists today and moving backward based on the proven and statically agreed to population growth formula, we find that when we reach all the way back to the first two people – a man and a woman living on earth – it would be around 4500 years ago. I find this quite incredible since we are continually educated that this earth is many millions and billions of years old. That we are told that it takes millions of years for something to evolve into something else. That a man and a woman would have evolved just in time – at the same time – just to start the population of our earth is quite mind-boggling.

What is wrong? Who is wrong? Is anything wrong? Think about it!

The Migration Season

Northern Michigan at it Best!

Each year as fall and winter approach, the animals and birds start their journey to their winter homes. Some of us will do the same as we move to a warmer climate to avoid the cold during those cold winter days. It’s interesting how this approach to life also impedes in our daily thoughts. How we tend to migrate to what make each of us comfortable. Some of us like to curl up on a sofa or our favorite chair, read a book or watch one of our favorite movies. Some will throw on the running shoes and hit the trails. One might argue that they are not the same. Knowing some of the people that get such great joy out of running I would argue they are. The big difference is that for the runner you must first work at it until your body starts looking for that rush you get. Even then once you have reached that level you have settled into what makes you comfortable. It becomes our mental state of mind. One might have a glass of a favorite wine, lite the fire in the fire place and sit back and let our mind and body slide into deep relaxation. We have trained our brain in a way that fits our desires, what makes us comfortable, what we feel gives our life stability and in many ways purpose.

While running, walking, reading, or just meditating is a great thing and each of us should desire for some level of this in our lives, it becomes important to realize that when we get to a point that we are content with our daily lives, we have allowed some level of complacency to settle in. If we are a runner and enjoy that rush we get, as our body ages we need to recognize that maybe it is time to change to taking brisk walks instead. If we are a reader we may need to explore new authors to gain new perspectives. Maybe it is looking at the other side of a topic that we feel strongly against. We should not allow complacency to inhibit our ability to look outside the box. We should look to reinforce our current beliefs or possibly altering our position just a little if we find that we were not quite correct.

Opening one’s mind to things outside our comfort zone is difficult. Our subconscious mind drive our feelings. Many times we dismiss thing around us just because we didn’t see them or we dismissed the thought before we took the time to think about it just because we didn’t agree or thought it was a waist of time. It truly takes a conscious effort to eliminate complacency from our lives.

I once asked myself the question “What is this life all about anyway?”.  Allowing myself the freedom to explore this thought, raised the key question about life in general. Did I evolve from something or was I created by someone. Logic would say of course I was created by my mom and dad, but what created that egg that I came from? How did this all start?

Watching the discovery channel, I was being told that it all started millions of years ago. That my great, great————, great grand father was really just a single cell that randomly happened.  If this is really the case than I guess that we really are only on this earth for what we call our life time and once this is over we just decay away too nothing but a memory in someone’s mind. But how could this cell be randomly started and have built into it or possibly over time develop the DNA requirement to make me into a human complete with a brain and a mind to think with. Is it then possible that I was created? If so, then I do have a real purpose. Maybe there is more to this life and possible even death.

To explore these questions is something each of us should attempt to do. We should not just accept what we are told on TV, in our museum’s,  in our schools and even in our place of worship. We need to decide for ourselves what is true and to do this we have to overcome the complacency of our mind. Directing our lives and not allow someone else to control our thoughts and beliefs can be difficult. The satisfaction of expanding our knowledge, allowing ourselves to stand firmly on our beliefs, never hiding from a discussion, always being able to have open dialog with those who have a belief different than ours, is the key to a full and robust life.

So until tomorrow when the sun comes up again, I will continue my quest. Please feel free to join me on my adventure and chime in anytime. Your thoughts and ideas are welcome.
